Sofia citizens will pay 25% higher taxes on buildings in 2008, the capital's municipality announced Thursday.
The tax becomes 1,87 permilles of the property evaluation.
Initially the municipal councilors proposed a 33% tax hike but after long discussions finally accepted the proposition of Socialist Georgi Kadiev for a less drastic increase.
The tax on cars was also increased, as owners of vehicles older than 10 years will pay 60% more while the tax for newer cars will be raised by 30%.
According to officials, the hikes would let the municipality invest more in renovation of schools and kinder gardens in Sofia.
