Some 2,000 troops are expected to be stationed at the Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase, with the military investing significant sums of money in both the facilities on the base and the local area, reports Stars and Stripes.
Property prices in the region have "skyrocketed", according to the news provider, with farm land selling for thousands of pounds more than in previous years.
Major Christopher Foote, joint task force-east director of logistics, said that local businessmen are eager to take advantage of the increase in foreign investment and see "how they can fit into it".
According to the International Herald Tribune, The US and Romanian armed forces have conducted joint training excercises for a number of years.
